The Nigerian singer and songwriter who is known popularly as Rema is no doubt the number one icon in this category.

He rose to fame shortly after the CEOs of Mavin Record Label and Jonzing world, Don Jazzy and D’Prince discovered him and signed him to their record labels respectively.

The young lad didn’t hesitate to utilize his chance and deployed multiple hit songs to the growth of the Afrobeat genre.

His Mavin Record Label debut song, “Iron man” attracted the likes of Barack Obama, the former president of the United State of America who added it to his seasonal Playlist. This gave him early global recognition that infused his confidence.

He went on deploying several hit songs that earned him multiple major musical awards that well defined his qualities.

Fireboy DML 

Adedamola Adefolahan who is better known by his stage name, Fireboy DML has worked so hard to claim the second spot in this category.

He was a street-striving upcoming potential Afrobeat gem that found his favour after the CEO of YBNL, Olamide discovered him and gave him a boost.

After he had settled to thrive, he released a couple of hit songs including ‘Jealous’ which became a global hit. This thrust him to even muse for a debut album which emerged to be a success making him an instant star.

He has since then bagged multiple music awards and broken a vast record setting up other young Afrobeat Maestros to work a bit harder.


Another YBNL gem has rapidly earned his spot in third place in this category. He is no doubt recognized as one of the new Afrobeat generation kings.

Ahmed Ololade who is famously known as Asake struck the limelight rapidly after he was discovered and signed to the YBNL record label by the Afrobeat giant, Olamide.

Asake became the first Nigerian breakout star to bag multiple music streams across all platforms having exceeded over 300 million streams in total.


Temilade Openiyi who is best described as Tems also worked incredibly hard to earn her place at the fourth spot in this category.

Before her impact with the Afrobeat gem, Wizkid, Tems bossed her spot by deploying hit songs to the genre of Afrobeat. She gained a massive fan base and further released multiple hit songs that best described her status.

However, her status was infused after she met Wizkid who aided her global recognition. She collaborated with the Afrobeat giant on the song “Essence” which is identified as one of the hit tracks of his fourth studio album ‘Made In Lagos’.

The quality of the song captured an enormous number of listeners who heavily streamed the song and soared it to the top.

This bagged several musical awards to her status including ‘The BET’ award that has so far described her musical qualities.
